+ Duke Smith Warehouse

For use by a variety of student-focused groups, LAMBERT softened and organized the spaces in this 90,000 SF historic warehouse, and created an interesting but methodical system of wayfinding. Programmatically diverse groups were arranged along a sinuous wall that parallels primary circulation on the first floor while incorporating industrial-feeling materials sympathetic to the space. Distinct, bright colors were used to denote each major bay of the building, figuring into signage and wayfinding.

A common-use kitchen was designed to allow use by student groups. This incorporates high end residential grade appliances and is used for potluck gatherings as well as on-site prepared meals. Islands were constructed from reclaimed timber from the building renovation. Industrial themed materials were used for countertops and backsplash.
