+ Count Zinzendorf Community Appearance Award

LAMBERT Architecture + Interiors was the recipient of the 2010 Count Zinzendorf Award from the Community Appearance Commission of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County for its renovation of a mixed-use retail complex. (Images of the transformation at right)

Built as an automotive service center for Firestone, this structure typified the “mid-century” Modern style of the 1950s and 60s. Its dramatic folded plate roof has long anchored the corner of 5th and Spring Streets and hovered above a glass fronted lobby and retail store. Attached beyond were the auto service bays with glass-fronted roll-up doors. Sam Ogburn, Jr., of Ogburn Properties, and LAMBERT worked to revive and freshen the building and site while respecting the significant architecture. Bib’s Downtown opened in December of 2008 to rousing success despite the slowed economy.
